Memory is an image, an image of time, each moment is an origin.
Aurore de Sousa was born in Portugal. She graduated from the Ecole Superieur d’Art of Grenoble (Graduate School of Fine Arts) where she now lives and works. Influenced by the Land Art movement in the 70s, she tackles photography by the exploration of landscapes and hiking as a first subject. This experience is conclusive and led her in 1991 to dedicate her fully to photography. She started then a work on portrait and feminine nude. From 1994, her work is directed essentially toward a poetical approach of identity and of memory and time. She carries on with that exploration in 2005 by the realisation of a project of photographic creation in Lisbon after getting a grant from the Institut Camões. The essence of her approach pertains to the rise of the identity and historical awareness and could be described as an invitation to explore the way our glance on the visible world – and its sensitive expression that we make through photography – is a making of meaning that transforms us continuously in our relation with the perception of the world.
Aurore de Sousa has been exposing regularly her photographs since 1996 in France and elsewhere.
